It's membership-focused, so you can't just rock up on a whim. If you're a golfer staying at Chester Fairoaks nearby and fancy a round, you'll need to arrange a guest round through your club back home or know someone who belongs. That said, it's worth asking - many courses will accommodate visitors if you've got a handicap certificate.

Allow the best part of four hours for a full round, plus time in the clubhouse after. The Wirral setting means you're not far from Chester itself - about 20 minutes - which breaks up a longer holiday nicely if golf isn't the whole agenda.

Families without golfers in tow won't find much here. This is about the game itself, not about views or walking or sitting about. For keen golfers, however, it's a proper option when you're based at the caravan park, and considerably closer than driving into Cheshire proper to find another course.
