Broadland Country Park

The moment you step into Broadland Country Park, you're surrounded by reed beds and open water that stretches further than seems possible for Norfolk. This isn't manicured parkland - it's proper wetland, the kind of place where you actually understand why the Broads are so special.

It's a nature reserve first and foremost, so come here for birdwatching and walking, not for facilities or themed attractions. Winter brings shoveler ducks and visiting geese; spring means warblers in the reeds and the whole place comes alive with nesting birds. There are trails through the reserve where you can spot terns, herons, and if you're lucky, marsh harriers hunting across the water. Children who are into wildlife will lose hours here. Anyone after a quick twenty-minute stroll should look elsewhere.

The walks are flat and straightforward - this is Norfolk, after all - but the light can be brutal in midday sun with nowhere to hide. Early morning or late afternoon suits it better, when the birds are more active anyway. Allow a couple of hours minimum if you're properly birdwatching; less if you're just after a leg-stretch.

It sits well within a Broads holiday. Both Moat Island Glamping and Top Farm Campsite are within easy reach, putting you close enough to explore the wider reserve network without much driving. Norwich is just east of here too, so you can mix wetland walks with city time if needed. Quiet spot, genuinely worth the visit if you've got binoculars and patience.
