Broadfield Hill

The walk up Broadfield Hill from Lochwinnoch is straightforward enough, though calling it a 'peak' might be generous - you're looking at around 260 metres, which means the climb is more about the journey than arriving at some dramatic summit. That said, the views across the Clyde Valley are genuinely worth the leg work, especially on a clear day when you can see right across to the higher hills beyond.

This is walker territory, pure and simple. It's the sort of place you'd head to if you've got a decent pair of boots and a couple of hours to spare, not somewhere to bring restless kids expecting alpine drama. The path itself is well-trodden and reasonably maintained, though it can get boggy after rain - I'd suggest going in the drier months if you can.

Walkers exploring the area would do well to base themselves at The Pods at Auchenhean, just over five miles away, which gives you a comfortable spot to return to without the fuss of a traditional hotel. From there, Broadfield Hill makes a cracking afternoon outing, and you're within striking distance of the moorland walks that define this part of Renfrewshire.

It's not a destination in itself, but it's exactly what the Scottish Lowlands do well - modest height, big views, and the kind of quiet walking that doesn't require a crowd. Allow two hours there and back, maybe longer if you're taking photos or stopping to actually take in the landscape.
