Broadacres Lake

The water here is properly serene - a long stretch of blue that catches the light beautifully on a clear day, surrounded by mature trees and open meadow. Broadacres Lake sits just outside Rickmansworth, making it an easy reach from most of Buckinghamshire, yet it feels removed from the everyday mess of things.

It's the kind of place where walkers genuinely linger rather than just pass through. The banks are accessible enough, with decent paths running alongside, and you can walk the perimeter without too much faffing about. There's something restorative about water like this - nothing dramatic or showy, just calm and functional.

Families with younger kids will manage the walk fine, though don't expect thrills or novelty attractions. Birdwatchers and anglers know it well; if you're after wildlife spotting, early morning or dusk is when things get interesting. The lake itself is a haven for waterfowl, particularly in winter months.

The real value here is the walk and the quiet. It's not a destination on its own, but combined with exploring the Rickmansworth area more broadly, it's well worth the time.
