A modest Georgian-era stone bridge spanning the Grand Union Canal just outside Southam, Bridge 17 - known locally as Wigrams Bridge - is the sort of place that doesn't announce itself loudly but rewards a quiet moment's attention. The arch is low and tight, built when canal boats were smaller and horses pulled them along the towpath. It's not spectacular, but there's something rather satisfying about standing beneath it, tracing the weathered stonework and watching the water pass through.

This is really one for canal enthusiasts and people who enjoy a gentle towpath walk rather than those seeking dramatic views or interactive experiences. If you're stopping at Holt Farm Campsite or Hill Farm Glamping nearby, it makes for a pleasant half-hour diversion - you can walk the canal in either direction from here and the towpath is flat and easy. The bridge itself is free to look at, obviously, and there's no entrance fee or fiddly opening hours to worry about.

It won't hold your attention for long - maybe ten minutes to photograph it and have a think about the working boats that once passed through - but it fits nicely into a broader canal walk. Southam itself is close enough for supplies and a proper tea.
