Brickyard Plantation

A sprawling woodland carpet just outside Lincoln, Brickyard Plantation is the sort of place locals know but visitors often miss. The forest wraps itself across decent acreage with proper walking trails threading through mature trees - nothing dramatic, but solid, quiet woodland where you can actually hear yourself think.

The trails are manageable for most fitness levels, though you'll want decent shoes if there's been rain. It's the kind of place where a couple of hours disappears without you noticing. Families with younger kids will find it pleasant enough for a morning walk, though there's not a huge amount to catch their attention beyond the usual woodland stuff - birds, the occasional squirrel, dappled light through the canopy.

Walkers and anyone after a bit of peace will get more from it. There's something quite grounding about moving through old woodland near a city - you're close enough to Lincoln for a proper day out, but far enough away to feel properly removed.

If you're staying at Spire View Meadow - the glamping spot just 3.9 miles away - this makes an easy morning or afternoon escape. The site itself is well-rated, so you could easily combine a night or two there with a proper woodland walk here. Bring a flask, dress for the weather, and you'll be fine. No visitor centre or facilities from what I can gather, so come prepared. Free to access from what most local walkers report, though you should check ahead given the information's thin on the ground.
