Brickworth Down

The walk up to Brickworth Down rewards you with proper views across the Wiltshire chalk downland - the sort of landscape that makes you understand why people got excited about this corner of England centuries ago. It's not a dramatic peak, but the vantage point works well, especially on a clear day when you can make out the rolling ridges stretching toward Salisbury.

This is walker territory. The climb isn't brutal, but it's genuine enough that you'll feel like you've earned the view rather than simply driven somewhere and stepped out of the car. Family groups with primary-school-age kids will manage it fine; anyone younger might find the leg up tedious. The surrounding downland is open and exposed, so wind can be a factor - it's a proper Wiltshire experience, which means bring a jacket even if the forecast looks promising.

The area works as a morning or afternoon expedition from Green Hill Farm Holiday Village, just over five miles away. You're looking at a couple of hours to walk up, take in the landscape, and come back down without rushing. There's something satisfying about working these high points into a park holiday - it breaks up the caravan routine and feels like actual exploration rather than queuing for attractions.

The down itself is free and unmanaged, so there are no facilities. That's either a feature or a bug depending on your view of countryside access. It certainly keeps the place quiet, which matters if you're after some proper peace.
