About Branscombe Beach
Historically minded visitors will appreciate the old lime kiln tucked into the clifftside - you can still spot the brick archway where lime was burned for mortar and fertiliser centuries ago. It's one of the few remaining examples on the south coast. A small beach hut settlement sits along the shore, painted in faded pastels, which adds to the slightly frozen-in-time feel of the place.
Families need to know that swimming here is possible but not supervised, and the pebbles can be tough on young children's feet. It's genuinely good for a long walk and proper beachcombing rather than a day splashing about. Being just a couple of miles from Seaton, it's easily worked into a coastal visit without major detours. If you're staying at Beer Head Holiday Park or Oakdown, both close by, Branscombe makes a sensible morning or afternoon excursion - allow two hours minimum. Best visited in quieter months when the tide is predictable and you can actually hear the waves.
