Walk into Bournemouth Aviary and you're immediately surrounded by the sound of wings and birdsong - it's quite something, honestly. This place is genuinely free to explore, which makes it one of the best zero-cost attractions near Christchurch. You'll find everything from exotic parrots to local British species in aviaries dotted around the grounds, and unlike some wildlife spots, the birds actually look well cared for and active rather than bored in tiny cages.

It's the kind of place where you can spend twenty minutes or two hours depending on your patience for bird-watching. Kids usually get a proper kick out of it - spotting different species, watching them feed, listening to the noise levels rise when you pass the louder enclosures. That said, if you're not particularly into birds, the novelty does wear off faster than you'd expect. There's not a huge amount of interactive stuff beyond observation, so teenagers might find it a bit tame.
