Blunt’s Orchard

A working orchard that's been left to go a bit wild - and that's precisely the point. Blunt's Orchard, just outside Wisbech, is one of those places where nature conservation happens quietly, without fanfare or visitor infrastructure. You'll find old fruit trees interspersed with grassland, scrub, and pockets of woodland that have been deliberately managed to encourage wildlife.

It's genuinely worth visiting if you're into birds and insects rather than manicured gardens. The scrub attracts breeding warblers in spring, while summer brings butterflies and dragonflies. Winter visitors include redwings and fieldfares picking through the old apple and pear trees. Most people spend 45 minutes to an hour here, which is the right amount of time to do a proper circuit without it feeling rushed.

Families with older kids who can manage rough paths and don't need constant activity will get something from it. Younger children might find it a bit sparse compared to formal parks. Walkers heading through the Fenland will appreciate it as a genuine break from the dead-flat arable landscape that dominates this corner of Norfolk.
