You'll see the full range here - restored vintage vessels, modern cabin cruisers, and the occasional houseboat that looks like someone's made a genuine go of living on the water. Walking the towpaths gives you a sense of the canal network that still threads through South Yorkshire, even if most of it's been largely forgotten by people rushing past on the motorway.

It's less of a destination and more of a worthwhile hour if you're already in the area with your family or staying at one of the nearby parks. Mooreacres is just 2.4 miles away, making this an easy afternoon walk to get some fresh air and watch the boats. Kids will find it interesting enough - there's movement and colour - but it won't hold their attention for half a day. Keen boaters and canal enthusiasts will get far more out of lingering here, chatting to mooring holders and picking out the finer points of different vessel types.

There's no charge to wander the marina itself, which makes it a decent free break from the caravan or holiday lodge. Best visited outside peak boating weekends if you want a quieter look around. It's the sort of place that rewards a slow amble rather than a rushed visit - real water, real boats, no pretence.
