Blenheim Park

The grounds at Blenheim are absolutely vast - we're talking 2,000 acres of parkland that sprawls across Oxfordshire like someone's drawn a proper stately home landscape and actually meant it. You get the palace itself (which is the real drawcard), but the park is where you'll spend half your day if you come prepared. There's water, woodland, open grassland, and enough walking trails to occupy families for a solid afternoon without anyone getting fractious. The lake is genuinely impressive - designed by Capability Brown, though you don't need to care about that to enjoy wandering round it. Free to access the grounds, though getting into the palace itself costs extra. Allow at least three hours if you're doing the full circuit on foot. Bit of a trek for small legs, mind you - this isn't a quick tick-box job. Early morning or late afternoon beats the midday crowds by a mile. From Kidlington it's a straightforward drive west, making it easily paired with other Cotswolds attractions if you're park-camping at Greenhill Leisure Park or one of the other sites dotted nearby. The parkland itself feels properly away from things, despite being surrounded by villages. Walkers and history types will get the most from this. If you've got children under eight who need constant entertainment, fair warning - there's no theme park energy here, just acres of lawn and trees. But that's rather the point.
