What you're actually getting is a well-maintained loop through mixed forest near Dunfermline, with strategically placed wooden sculptures and small details designed to appeal to under-tens. Nothing fancy - think carved characters and painted stumps rather than an enchanted wonderland - but it does the job on a damp Scottish afternoon when you need to burn some energy.

Allow an hour, maybe ninety minutes if you're stopping every five seconds so your child can photograph each woodland character. The trail itself is relatively flat and easy underfoot, so no serious hiking boots required. It's free to access, which is the main draw, and the forest canopy keeps things cool even on warmer days.
