Blaeloch Hill

The walk up Blaeloch Hill takes maybe forty minutes if you're not dawdling, and the effort pays off when you reach the summit and can see across Renfrewshire properly. It's not high - barely 300 metres - but the views south toward the Clyde Valley are genuinely good, especially on a clear day when you can pick out the industrial bits of Paisley and beyond.

You'll start from near Lochwinnoch, which is handy because the town itself has everything you need before or after - cafes, pubs, a decent car park. The path is straightforward, nothing technical, though it gets a bit boggy in places if there's been rain. Walkers will find it a decent warm-up hike rather than anything challenging; families with older children can manage it fine, but younger kids might struggle with the bog sections.

What makes it worthwhile is the solitude. This isn't a honeypot route, so you won't be queuing or fighting for views. On a quiet morning you might only see a handful of other people. The summit has a modest cairn and enough space to sit with a flask and actually think.

If you're staying at The Pods at Auchenhean nearby - which gets genuinely rave reviews - Blaeloch Hill works nicely as a morning walk before heading somewhere else. It's the sort of thing you'd do while based in the area rather than drive here specifically. Free to walk, no facilities on the hill itself, so bring water. Best in autumn when the light's lower and warmer.
