Blackdike Plantation

There's something rather calming about walking into Blackdike Plantation on the outskirts of Beverley. It's proper woodland - the kind where you can actually hear yourself think, which is saying something. The forest floor is soft underfoot, paths wind through decent-sized trees, and it genuinely feels like you've stepped away from things, even though you're minutes from town.

It's a straightforward woodland walk, nothing dramatic. You're here for the peace and the greenery, maybe spotting wildlife if you're lucky. Families with younger kids will manage the terrain fine - it's not demanding - though there's not much in the way of facilities or interpretation boards to hold their attention if they're the sort to get bored. Walkers and anyone after a quiet hour or so will find it worthwhile. The trees do the work for you.

There's no entrance fee that I'm aware of, and you can spend anywhere from 30 minutes to a couple of hours depending on how many paths you fancy exploring. It works well as part of a wider trip around Beverley rather than a destination in itself. If you're staying at Butt Farm Caravan site just down the road, it's an easy add-on - much closer than driving further afield. The nearby holiday parks give you options for a proper break, though Blackdike itself is more of a gentle interlude than a major day out. Worth a detour if you're in the area and want some woodland air.
