Bissell's Coppice

A proper woodland walk rather than a destination in itself, Bissell's Coppice sits just outside Henley-in-Arden and offers the kind of quiet forest ramble that works best when you're already exploring the area. The coppice is ancient woodland - you can tell by the character of the trees and the way the ground feels lived-in by centuries of management. Paths wind through a mix of oak, hazel, and smaller growth that changes with the seasons. Spring brings bluebells that carpet the floor; autumn turns it all gold and russet. It's not dramatic or particularly large, so don't expect to lose yourself for hours unless you're the type who gets absorbed in every fallen branch and fern frond.

For families, it's worth a detour on a Sunday morning if the kids need to burn off energy without the intensity of a major country estate. Walkers heading through Warwickshire will find it fits neatly between visits to larger parks like Wootton Park Glamping Pods or Mousley House Farm - those are proper bases for a long weekend. Bring a dog if you have one; the paths are dog-friendly and muddy enough to be fun without being treacherous.

The coppice is free to access and requires no booking. Allow 45 minutes to an hour if you're doing a complete loop, longer if you're dawdling. Come after rain when the woodland smells honest and the light filters through in that particular green-grey way that makes you remember why you wanted to get out in the first place. It won't wow you, but it'll remind you what English woodland actually feels like.
