The lookout sits well-positioned for spotting herons, kingfishers and various duck species that call these waters home. Early morning visits prove most rewarding when the mist lifts and feeding activity peaks. Serious twitchers will appreciate the elevated vantage point over reed beds that stretch towards Cambridge, though casual visitors might find thirty minutes sufficient unless something spectacular turns up.

Families with patient children could make this work as part of a longer country walk, but restless toddlers will lose interest quickly. The structure feels sturdy enough, though it's hardly accessible for pushchairs or mobility aids.

For those staying at nearby spots like Cuckoo Fen Campsite or Roseberry Tourist Park, it makes a decent morning constitutional before breakfast. The walk from most local accommodation takes twenty minutes through fairly flat terrain. Pack layers - it gets properly breezy up there, and you'll want to linger if the wildlife cooperates.
