Bioran na Circe

The walk up Bioran na Circe isn't long, but it packs a proper punch. This modest peak sits above Lochearnhead in the southern Highlands, and on a clear day the views across the Trossachs are absolutely worth the climb. From the summit you get a real sense of how the landscape rolls on - lochs catching the light, the higher peaks beyond, and on good days visibility stretching miles out. The ascent takes roughly 45 minutes to an hour depending on your fitness, following a well-trodden path through the kind of Scottish countryside that makes you remember why you came here in the first place.

Families with older kids will manage fine, though younger ones might find the climb tedious - there's not much to occupy them on the way up. Go in autumn or spring when the midges aren't out to get you, and when the light's decent the views alone justify the effort.
