Biggin Hill

The walk up Biggin Hill from Warlingham is straightforward but surprisingly rewarding. At just 265 metres, it's not going to test serious hikers, but the views across Surrey's green belt and towards the North Downs make it well worth the half-hour slog. You're essentially climbing through farmland and woodland, and the summit itself sits on open ground with proper panoramic views in clear weather.

This one's ideal for families staying at Milberry Green Meadows just down the road - kids will manage it without complaint, and there's something satisfying about reaching the top without needing a full day's commitment. The nearest town, Warlingham, gives you access to decent pubs and shops if you want to fuel up before or after.

Timing matters here. Early morning before crowds feel the need to climb minor peaks, or late afternoon when the light gets interesting. Weather dependent, obviously - on a grey day you're just looking at trees rather than views. Allow a couple of hours including a sit-down break at the top. It's free, no facilities, no gates to speak of. The footpaths are generally well-maintained and accessible year-round, though it gets muddy after rain.

Honestly, it's a solid local walk rather than a draw-trip destination. If you're basing yourself in the area and have the legs, go for it. Don't go out of your way.
