Big Spring Coppice

Walking into Big Spring Coppice feels like stepping back into proper woodland - the kind where oak and birch have had centuries to establish themselves. It's a working forest near Henley-in-Arden, and that matters because you're not looking at manicured pathways here, but rather genuine managed woodland with the scuff and character that comes with actual forestry.

The coppice itself is the main event. Paths wind through dense trees, and depending on the season, you'll either have excellent shade on a warm day or that lovely clarity of sight through bare branches in winter. There's a gentle rhythm to walking here - nothing too demanding, though the ground can be uneven after wet weather.

For families with younger kids, it's perhaps half an hour of genuine interest before they start asking about ice cream. Walkers and nature types will find more to occupy themselves - bird watching is solid here, and the woodland floor is worth looking at if you're interested in fungi and what grows beneath. It's the kind of place that doesn't overwhelm you with facilities or visitor infrastructure, which is either brilliant or a drawback depending on what you want.

If you're based at Mousley House Farm or Gate Farm - both excellent touring parks within five miles - Big Spring Coppice makes a proper morning's activity rather than a full day out. Spring and early summer are best; the woodland comes alive without being suffocating. Bring waterproofs regardless of the forecast.
