It's the sort of place that works brilliantly for families. Kids can have a laugh on the easier routes while adults get stuck into something more challenging on the same visit. No expensive kit required either - you can turn up in trainers and a t-shirt, and they'll sort you out. The staff know their stuff and won't let you do anything daft.

If you're staying at Ekeney House Campsite - a solid base about six miles away - this makes for a proper rainy-day option or an afternoon activity that actually knocks you out in the best way. Climbing walls have that peculiar quality of seeming easy until you're halfway up and your forearms are screaming.
