Big Foot

You'll find Big Foot tucked away in Lisburn and Castlereagh, a gallery that punches above its weight if you're after contemporary art with a bit of edge. The work on display leans into bold, unconventional pieces - the sort that make you either love it or scratch your head, which is exactly how good galleries should operate.

It's a solid stop if you're based at Lakeside View Caravan Park nearby, though I wouldn't say it's worth a dedicated trip from further afield. Allow an hour, maybe ninety minutes if the current exhibition really grabs you. The space itself is unpretentious, which I prefer to some of the more self-important galleries you find in larger cities.

Art types and anyone keen on what's happening in Northern Ireland's creative scene will get the most from it. Families with younger kids might find it a touch slow - it's not interactive, and there's no cafe to break things up. Hillsborough is just down the road if you need a proper wander afterwards, or food and a proper pint.

Free entry, which is always welcome. Go on a weekday morning if you can - less crowded, and the staff aren't rushed off their feet. Worth an afternoon if you're in the area caravan hopping, but don't cancel other plans to make it happen.
