Between the Lines

Between the Lines is a contemporary gallery tucked away in the Cambridgeshire countryside, just outside Cambridge. It's the kind of place that rewards a deliberate visit rather than a casual drop-in - the sort of space where serious art lovers and curious types will spend a good hour or two proper engaged with what's on the walls.

The gallery focuses on line-based work across various media: drawing, printmaking, sculpture, and installation pieces that explore how artists use line as their primary language. It's quite focused, which means you either click with the concept or you don't. If you're the sort who finds something compelling in a single charcoal mark on paper, or who stops to study how a sculptor uses negative space, you'll get plenty from it.

Based near Cambridge's touring parks - Cherry Hinton and the Camping and Caravanning Club site are both within three miles - it works well as a morning visit before exploring the city proper or as a quieter afternoon alternative to the crowds around King's College. Allow roughly ninety minutes, longer if there's a substantial exhibition on.

Word of warning: opening hours and admission fees aren't always advertised online, so ring ahead before setting out. Cambridge's galleries can be hit-and-miss with consistency, and this one's no exception. That said, if the current show connects with you, it's worth the short drive from your campsite.
