About Ben Vorlich
Most people tackle this as a day walk from the village, starting at the southern end of Loch Earn and following the burn up through woodland before breaking into open moorland. The path is well-trodden but rough in places, and it's relentless once you get going. Reckon on three to four hours up, less coming down if your knees are up to it. The summit itself is exposed and windswept, but you'll feel like you've actually earned your view.
This is squarely for walkers and hillwalkers - families with young kids will find it a slog, and there's not much here for the casual stroller. Weather matters. I've been up there in cloud so thick you couldn't see your boots, and I've seen it clear enough to pick out Ben Lomond. Go early if you can, bring proper boots and waterproofs, and don't underestimate how exposed it gets.
If you're staying at Balquhidder Braes or Loch Earn Leisure Park - both a short drive away - Ben Vorlich makes a satisfying full day out. It's the kind of walk you'll remember, not because it's easy, but because you did it.
