Beinn Chapull

The walk up Beinn Chapull isn't long, but it's steep enough that you'll feel it in your legs. Starting from near Taynuilt, you're looking at roughly two hours up and down if you're moving at a decent pace, though most people take longer to dawdle at the summit. The hill sits just north of Loch Awe, so the payoff is a proper Highland view - the loch spreads below you, Cruachan dominates the skyline opposite, and on clear days you can see right across Argyll. It's a proper Scottish hill, nothing manicured or easy about it.

This is genuinely good for walkers wanting something that feels like a real mountain but won't gobble up your whole day. Families with capable kids - say eight upwards - will manage fine if everyone's willing to graft a bit. The scramble sections aren't technical, just pushy, and there's stone cairns marking the way so you won't get lost. Bring good boots though; it gets boggy.

If you're based at Loch Awe Camping Pods, which sits just four and a half miles away, this is a brilliant half-day tick. You could easily knock it off before lunch and spend the afternoon exploring the loch's quiet eastern shore, or visiting Kilchurn Castle if ruins are your thing. The pods give you proper comfort after a morning of hill-slogging, which is more than you can say for most Argyll camping spots. Go midweek if possible - weekends bring noisy groups to Beinn Chapull and they spoil the peace.
