Beans Seal Trips

The seals at Blakeney Point aren't technically at Beans - that's the boat operator who'll take you out there - but this is genuinely one of Norfolk's best wildlife experiences. You'll motor out from Blakeney harbour on what's usually a bumpy, exhilarating ride across the shallows, and if the tide's right, you'll get within metres of hundreds of grey and harbour seals lounging on the sandbanks. They're remarkably unbothered by visitors, which makes for proper close-up photography and unforgettable viewing.

The trip takes roughly two to three hours depending on tides and how many seals are hauled out that day. It's absolutely worth the journey from Fakenham - about 20 minutes drive north. Families with kids aged five and up tend to love it, though younger children can get restless on the water. The boat rocks about a fair bit, so if anyone's prone to seasickness, come prepared.

Timing matters. Summer sees bigger crowds and sometimes fewer seals (they scatter in heat). Spring and autumn are cracking - calmer seas, decent seal activity, and far fewer tourists queuing. You'll need to book ahead, especially weekends. Prices vary by operator, but expect £10-15 per adult.

If you're staying at Pinewoods Holiday Park nearby, this pairs beautifully with coastal walks around Wells-next-the-Sea or Cley. The whole area's got excellent natural history appeal - this isn't a theme park experience, it's proper wildlife watching.
