Bardwell Community Allotments

The allotments at Bardwell are a proper working affair - nothing manicured or touristy about it. You'll find locals tending vegetables between neat rows of beans, courgettes and the sort of herbs that smell like someone's actually going to cook with them. It's the kind of place where you can wander the paths between plots and see real gardening in action, not some heritage interpretation centre version of it.

This is less about facilities and more about witnessing how East Anglian gardeners spend their weekends. If you're into growing things, or just want to kill twenty minutes seeing what's actually growing in Suffolk soil right now, it's worth the short drive from Diss. Kids might find it dull unless they're already interested in where food comes from - it's not a playground, and there's no café. But for walkers or anyone plotting their own garden back home, there's something genuine about seeing what thrives here.

The site itself is free to visit, though obviously you're a guest on someone else's patch - respect that. Best time is summer when everything's growing and the plots are bursting. It works well as a gentle stop if you're based at Arthur's Retreat motorhome site nearby. Combine it with a proper walk elsewhere in the area if you want a full afternoon sorted.
