About Bardolph's Wood
This is walker territory, pure and simple. The paths wind through mixed woodland with enough variation to keep things interesting for a couple of hours, though it's not demanding stuff - more of a gentle amble than a proper hike. Families with primary school age kids will get the most out of it; younger children might find the shaded paths a bit gloomy, and teenagers will likely be bored within 45 minutes unless they're genuinely into nature.
No facilities that I'm aware of, so bring water and snacks. It's free to access, which is always welcome. Go in spring when the bluebells are doing their thing, or autumn when the light filters through the canopy in that particular way that makes photographers lose their minds. Summer can feel a bit airless under all those leaves.
If you're based at Swiss Farm or Embers - both solid camping options within a few miles - Bardolph's Wood makes for a decent half-day outing without eating into time you might spend exploring the Chilterns proper. It's not a destination in itself, but it scratches that woodland itch well enough.
