The views from Banner Riggs stretch out over the Lyth Valley in a way that makes the short but steep climb feel properly worthwhile. This 289-metre hill sits just south of Kendal and offers one of the finest elevated perspectives of southern Lakeland without requiring a full day's commitment. The footpath up from the village of Brigsteer takes about 45 minutes of steady walking through mixed woodland before emerging onto open fell.

Walkers and photographers will get the most from this modest peak - families with younger children might find the final rocky sections a bit challenging, though determined teenagers should manage fine. The reward is a cracking 360-degree view that takes in Morecambe Bay to the south and the Howgill Fells to the east.

Allow two to three hours for the round trip, including time to properly appreciate the summit views. Spring and autumn offer the clearest visibility, though any decent weather day makes it worth the effort. The hill sees far fewer visitors than the more famous fells further north, making it a lovely spot for a peaceful morning out.
