Bannam's Wood

A proper woodland walk just outside Henley-in-Arden, Bannam's Wood is the sort of place locals know about but tourists often miss. It's a working forest - not a manicured country estate - with decent paths that wind through mixed trees and the occasional surprising clearing. You'll find bluebells in spring if you time it right, and the whole place has that genuine English woodland feel rather than anything twee or overmanaged.

The wood works best for walkers who want a genuine stretch of the legs without needing to navigate difficult terrain. There's enough here to fill a solid hour or two depending on which paths you take, though it won't keep hyperactive kids entertained all day - it's trees and more trees, no play areas or visitor facilities. Bring proper boots if there's been rain. The paths can get muddy and a bit rough in patches.

If you're staying at one of the nearby holiday parks - Wootton Park is closest at just two miles - this makes for a sensible morning or late afternoon venture. Pair it with a walk around Henley-in-Arden itself, a proper market town with proper character, and you've got a decent half-day sorted. It's free to access, though you should respect it as a working woodland and stick to the obvious routes. Not the sort of place for a grand family day out, but absolutely worth popping into if you're in the area and fancy some air that doesn't smell of petrol.
