Balquhidder Parish Church

The small kirk sits quietly in Balquhidder village, a couple of miles from Lochearnhead, and if you're passing through the Stirling area, it's worth stopping by. The church itself dates back centuries, though what you'll see now is largely Victorian restoration work - a neat stone building that feels properly lived-in rather than museum-piece stuffy.

What draws people here, honestly, is the graveyard. Rob Roy MacGregor is buried here, and even if you're not bothered about 18th-century Highland outlaws, the kirkyard has that peaceful quality that old burial grounds manage so well. The views across Balquhidder Glen are decent too, though nothing that'll leave your jaw on the floor.

It's free to have a wander about, and you'll spend maybe 20 minutes here unless you're really into ecclesiastical history. Not the sort of place to build a day around, but if you're staying at Balquhidder Braes Holiday Park - which is just down the road and gets consistently top marks - you could easily pop over as a quiet morning stroll before breakfast.

The surrounding area has proper walking potential, and the church marks a decent starting point for exploring the glen. Best visited on a weekday when it's genuinely quiet. On a bank holiday weekend it gets a bit busier with the tour-bus crowd, which rather ruins the whole point.
