Aspal Close Nature Reserve

The path through Aspal Close gets muddy fast, especially after rain, so proper walking boots are essential. It's a working nature reserve tucked between Brandon and the Fens - nothing flashy, just quiet woodland and wetland where you might spot woodpeckers, water voles if you're lucky, and the occasional roe deer if you're very lucky. Most people allow an hour to ninety minutes, though you could be through in forty-five if you're just after a quick stroll.

This is best for keen birdwatchers and naturalists rather than kids after constant activity. The trails are gentle enough - no scrambling or elevation gain - but there's not much else happening in terms of amenities or attractions within the reserve itself. What you get is peace and genuine wildlife habitat, which matters if that's what you came for.

Free access, as far as I could establish, though do check locally before heading out. The nearest town is Brandon, about three miles west, which gives you access to the Trelander Camping site just down the road if you're planning a longer Cambridgeshire stay. Willow Grove Farm Glamping is similarly close by. If you're already staying out here for a few days exploring the Fens and smaller nature reserves, it's a proper worthwhile morning walk. Anywhere else? Probably not worth a special journey unless you're genuinely into wetland ecology.
