About Ashen Copse
Walkers will find it genuinely worthwhile. There's something satisfying about picking your own route through established woodland - no manicured paths, no interpretive signs telling you what to think. The forest floor changes seasonally; bluebells in spring are exceptional, mushrooms scatter across the ground in autumn. Kids either love the freedom of exploring or get bored after half an hour, depending on their patience for adventure without a playground at the end.
Allow an hour to ninety minutes if you want to actually look around rather than just march through. No facilities that I could find, so bring water and keep an eye on your phone signal. It's free to access, though you'll need to find a spot to park nearby.
If you're based at one of the nearby campsites - Care Ashore on the Springbok Estate or Sussex Topiary further out - this makes a solid morning walk before heading to Guildford town proper. Combine it with Dapdune Wharf or some proper shopping if you need variety. On its own though, Ashen Copse is too limited for a full day out unless you're genuinely into woodland photography or just need peace and quiet.
