Art Upstairs Gallery sits above the shops in Bideford's town centre, and it's the sort of place you stumble upon rather than plan for. The space itself is intimate - whitewashed walls, decent natural light, and enough room to actually look at the work without feeling crowded. On my visit, there was a mix of painting, printmaking, and a few sculptural pieces that ranged from abstract to representational.

Bideford itself is worth a proper wander anyway - the quay is genuinely lovely, and the town has enough independent shops and cafes to justify a morning visit. If you're based at Owl Valley Glamping just down the road, or Braddicks Holiday Park nearby, Art Upstairs makes an excellent rainy-day stop or a break from the beaches. It's free admission, which is a bonus when you're not sure what to expect.
