Arrow Valley Country Park

The lakes at Arrow Valley pull you in before you've even parked the car. Sprawling across 130 acres near Alcester, this country park manages to feel proper peaceful despite being easily accessible from the road. You get two main lakes, woodland walks, and enough open space that families can actually breathe without bumping into each other.

What you're actually doing here is walking. Miles of it, if you want. The routes snake around the water where you might spot herons, cormorants, or just ducks doing their thing. The woodland sections are decent in autumn - proper golden, that sort of thing. Spring brings bluebells if you time it right. There's also a visitor centre with the usual facilities, though honestly the real appeal is just getting out and moving.

Walkers will find this genuinely worthwhile. Families with younger kids might manage an hour of the flatter bits before complaints set in. Birdwatchers should pack binoculars. The park is free, which always helps justify the drive out from Alcester.

If you're staying at somewhere like Wootton Park Glamping Pods just down the road, Arrow Valley makes for an excellent half-day outing - close enough for an easy morning walk without eating up your whole day. Go when it's not school holidays if you prefer fewer people about. The light's nicest in early morning anyway.
