The country park sprawls across reclaimed mining land near Crewe, and once you've grabbed a map from the centre, you can wander woodland trails and see how the landscape has recovered. If you're travelling with kids, the railway rides tend to be the real draw - there's something about narrow-gauge trains that keeps them entertained longer than you'd expect.
