Angus Clyne's workshop sits quietly on the outskirts of Pitlochry, and it's genuinely worth the slight detour if you've got an hour to kill. The man himself turns wood - proper wood, not mass-produced tourist tat - and the pieces have a real weight to them. Bowls, vessels, boxes, that sort of thing. They're displayed alongside his photography work, which gives the space a surprisingly contemplative feel for what could easily have been a run-of-the-mill gift shop.

You'll get the most out of this if you actually appreciate craftsmanship. There's something oddly meditative about watching turned wood under good light, and the photography runs the gamut from landscape to still life. It's not a destination in itself - don't expect to spend more than an hour here - but if you're based at one of the nearby caravan parks (Milton Of Fonab is particularly well-placed, just 3.6 miles away), it makes for a proper afternoon activity when the weather's iffy.

The workshop has that authentic feel: no corporate polish, no queues, just a maker's space. Best to check ahead for opening times before you visit, as smaller studios like this can be a bit variable with hours. Free to look around, though the pieces aren't cheap if something catches your eye. Pairs well with a walk in Faskally Woods Holiday Park if you're staying in the area longer.
