Anchor from the MSC Napoli

Back in 2007, the container ship MSC Napoli ran into trouble off the Devon coast and eventually had to be beached near Branscombe. What remains is this substantial anchor - a real piece of maritime history sitting on the seafront at Seaton, a small seaside town that's pleasant enough without being showy. It's the sort of thing that stops you mid-walk. You'll see it fairly quickly, understand the story, and that's the visit done - probably ten minutes if you're not fussed with reading every detail on the plaque.

The appeal here is specific. History buffs and anyone with a maritime interest will find it genuinely worthwhile. Families with younger kids might spend five minutes looking at it before moving on. Coastal walkers passing through Seaton won't regret the minor detour - it breaks up the walk and gives you something tangible to connect to rather than just another historical footnote.

Seaton itself is manageable for a morning or afternoon if you're staying at one of the nearby parks. Beer Head Holiday Park is just over a mile away, and it's adequate - nothing fancy but decent facilities. Oakdown, a couple of miles out, has better reviews and would be a proper base if you're planning several days exploring this stretch of coast. The Napoli anchor works as part of a broader coastal ramble rather than a destination in itself.
