Allt y Commins

The forest at Allt y Commins spreads across hillside above Aberaeron, a proper tangle of mixed woodland that feels genuinely wild compared to the manicured estates you find inland. Walking here, you're threading between older trees and younger plantings, following trails that wind uphill through the canopy. The undergrowth is thick - ferns, brambles, the occasional surprise stream cutting through the slope.

It's not dramatic or particularly famous, which is rather the point. Walkers will find decent paths and decent views back towards the coast once you climb high enough. Families with young kids might manage a short circuit without complaint, though it's not a playground-style setup. If you're after wild ponies or rare birds, you'll likely be disappointed. This is straightforward woodland walking territory.

The real value lies in its proximity to Aberaeron itself - the caravan parks at Aeron Coast and Camping on the Farm sit barely a mile away, making it an easy morning or late-afternoon walk from your holiday base. You won't need more than ninety minutes here unless you're properly exploring every side path. Go when the weather's decent; muddy Welsh woodland loses its appeal fast.

Free access, no facilities that I'm aware of, and honestly that's fine. It's the kind of place you visit because you're staying nearby, not because it features in guidebooks. Exactly as it should be.
