All Saints Church, North Wootton

The church sits quietly at the heart of North Wootton, a village that most people drive straight through on the way to somewhere else. All Saints is one of those Norfolk churches that rewards a quick detour - medieval flint walls, a proper squat tower, and the kind of peaceful churchyard where you can actually hear yourself think. Inside, there's decent medieval work if you know what to look for: tracery in the windows, carved details in the stonework. It's not a showstopper like some of the grander churches in the county, but it's genuine and largely unspoiled.

You'll want to allow maybe twenty minutes here, half an hour if you're the type to sit down and absorb the atmosphere. Admission appears free, though it's worth checking ahead as church access can be variable. History enthusiasts will find enough to occupy them; families with restless kids probably won't linger long. The churchyard itself is worth a wander - good stone work on some of the older graves.

Given its location just east of King's Lynn, this works well if you're based at one of the nearby caravan parks - Sandringham Camping and Caravanning Club Site is only three miles away, making it an easy evening stroll or a casual morning visit before heading elsewhere. The village is quiet, genuinely rural Norfolk, which is rather the point. It's the sort of place you come to if you actually want to see how these old buildings sit in their communities, not to tick boxes on a sightseeing list.
