Alderbrook Park

The woodland walk at Alderbrook Park, just outside Guildford, is one of those places that quietly gets on with being lovely without making a fuss about it. You're looking at a proper nature reserve with mixed woodland, open grassland, and a decent network of paths that don't require technical hiking skills. Wildlife spotters will have a field day here - think birds, small mammals, and enough wildflowers in spring to make you actually want to put your phone away.

It's excellent for families who can manage a moderate walk without needing constant entertainment. Children old enough to spot birds or search for insects will be engaged; toddlers might lose interest after an hour or so. Serious walkers should allow 90 minutes to properly explore the trails without rushing. The whole thing feels refreshingly low-key compared to Surrey's more manicured attractions.

It pairs well with other Guildford-area nature spots for a proper outdoorsy break without the crowds of the honey-pot attractions. Spring and early summer are when it's at its best, though winter walks have their own appeal if you catch a clear day.

Worth the trip if you're in the area? Absolutely. Worth driving 30 miles specially? Probably not.
