Ada Grove

Ada Grove sits just outside Hunstanton, a proper woodland walk that breaks up a seaside holiday nicely. It's not dramatic - no ancient monuments or rare species jumping out at you - but it's the sort of place that justifies a morning before heading back to the beach. The woodland itself is dense enough to feel like you've escaped, with decent paths winding through mature trees. You'll spot the usual Norfolk woodland residents: pheasants bolting across the track, the occasional muntjac if you're lucky, and plenty of birdsong when the wind's not howling off the North Sea.

Walkers will appreciate it more than casual strollers. Allow a solid hour or 90 minutes if you want to actually explore rather than rush through. It's free to access, which is one less argument about entrance fees. The ground can be muddy after rain - very muddy - so proper boots beat trainers. Kids will get a kick out of it for an hour, though there's nothing laid on for entertainment, so don't expect a playground or any facilities. Bring a packed lunch if you're making a proper afternoon of it.

Stayed at Manor Park or Searles nearby? Ada Grove makes for a good morning option before the holiday parks fill up with activity. It's close enough to Hunstanton that you could combine it with the beach and a chip shop lunch. The real value here is spacing out a coastal break - a change of scenery that doesn't require driving far. Norfolk's got better woodland walks elsewhere, but this one's convenient and honest about what it offers.
