The remains scattered across this site in Old Aberdeen tell the story of Roman occupation in what was once the northern frontier of the empire. There's not much left to look at, to be honest - mostly earthworks and scattered stone if you know what you're looking for. But that's partly the appeal. You're not fighting crowds here or trying to navigate reconstructed visitor centres. It's just you, the landscape, and the weight of nearly two thousand years.

Walkers and history buffs will find it worthwhile, especially if you're already exploring Old Aberdeen's medieval streets and university buildings nearby. The site requires a bit of effort to locate and understand, which means it attracts fewer tourists than it probably deserves. Allow an hour if you want to poke around properly and read any interpretation boards on site.

Access and practical details are thin on the ground - there's no visitor infrastructure, no admission charge that I can find. Go during daylight, wear proper boots because the ground can be muddy, and bring a guide book or download information beforehand if you want context.

If you're staying at Seaview Caravan Park just down the coast, this makes a solid morning excursion before heading into Aberdeen proper. It won't keep families with young kids entertained for long, but anyone with a genuine interest in Roman Britain will find it atmospheric and genuine in a way many official sites aren't.
